Open Innovation

Governance

Open Innovation is governed by a lightweight charter designed to grow with the community. We govern at the scale we're at, not the scale we hope to be.

Steering Group

The foundation is led by a steering group of founding members:

  • Russell, CTL / Seeper
  • Ellis, Backend Developer & Maker
  • Anton, Rewi.re / OpenXP

The steering group makes decisions by consensus. As the community grows past seven members, we'll move to lazy consensus: proposals stand unless someone objects within a set period.

Licensing

All foundation projects use approved open-source licences:

  • Code: Apache 2.0 or MIT (project's choice)
  • Content: Creative Commons

The open-source parts stay open-source. Permanently.

Code of Conduct

We adopt the Contributor Covenant, the industry standard code of conduct for open-source communities.

Financial Transparency

All foundation income and spending is published openly. We practice what we preach about commercial honesty.

Guild Membership

Guild membership is by invitation from existing members. As the network grows, we'll formalise a lightweight application process.

What Grows Later

These structures will be added when scale demands them, not before:

  • Formal board of directors
  • Technical steering committees per project
  • Advisory board of industry voices
  • Voting procedures, term limits, and conflict of interest policies

This charter is a living document. It evolves as we do.
